What we do and what we are not
Wright’s Repairs is not an emergency plumbing service. We do not run overnight calls, weekend calls or same-day dispatch, and saying otherwise would set you up to wait for somebody who is not coming. If water is actively pouring into your house right now, close the main and call a licensed plumbing contractor with a 24-hour line.
What we are good at is the other kind of leak, which is most of them. The ceiling stain that grew an inch since Christmas. The cabinet floor that has gone soft under the sink. The hairline weep at a supply line that puts a cup of water on the floor every week. Those need a careful look rather than a siren, and they get one on the next business day.
The reason that distinction matters is cost. A leak found at the fixture is a valve and a supply line. The same leak found six months later is drywall, insulation, flooring and sometimes framing. Most of the calls we take are somewhere between those two points, and the first job is finding out which. This work sits under minor plumbing repair.
How leaks announce themselves
A stain that keeps growing
A ceiling or wall stain with a hard edge is usually old and dry. One with a soft, spreading edge is active. Mark the outline in pencil with the date, and if it has moved in a week you have a live leak rather than a record of one that was fixed years ago.
A cabinet floor gone soft
Press the deck under a sink near the back corners. Particleboard that gives under a thumb has been wet a long time, and the stop or the supply line above it is the usual culprit rather than the drain.
A water bill that moved without you
Close every fixture, then watch the meter. Any movement over fifteen minutes with nothing running means water is going somewhere. A running toilet flapper is the common answer and the cheapest one to rule out first.
Shut the water off before you wait for us
Knowing where your main shutoff is, and knowing it actually turns, is worth more in that moment than any repair we can book. If the valve is seized, that is a job of its own and a common one in older Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor housing stock.
Closing the stop under the fixture is usually enough, and it leaves the rest of the house in water. Towels and a fan on the wet material until we arrive make a real difference to what has to be replaced. Do not cut open a wet ceiling before we see it, because where the water lands is rarely where it came from.

A find-and-stop visit follows the same order every time. Repairs to the finishes get quoted separately once the source is settled rather than guessed at while the ceiling is still wet.
- Trace the source from the wet material back to the fixture or line
- Open the smallest access needed to see the joint, valve or pan
- Stop the leak at the fixture, the stop or the supply line where that is the fault
- Moisture-read the surrounding material and mark what has to come out
- Photograph everything for your records and for your insurer, and put the findings in writing
Where the fault is upstream of a fixture we document it and route it out rather than opening pipe we should not open. The handoff works the way any Wright’s project runs.
